Please Try Again (2009)
- Date: 2009
- Location: The Kelowna Art Gallery
- Dimensions: 8'6" x 8'6" approx.
- Medium: losing crossword scratch tickets, donation box
Extending the Ministry of Casual Living window installation of 2005, Please Try Again now covers a gallery wall with the complex grid of light and dark lines of varying colours and hues that are the used scratch tickets. Each two-and three-quarter-inch square contains partially revealed words, and the occasional complete word. With the buttressing of so many word puzzles, various word associations and chance juxtapositions begin to take shape. Of particular interest to me is the filtering of a popular and recognizable form of entertainment through a visual compulsion to order and build objects, as well as the slow accumulation of meaning through repetitive acts.
